Who else but Filippo Ganna? The time trial course was tailor-made for the Italian from Ineos Grenadiers. Besides the battle for the stage win, there was also keen interest in the competition for the overall classification.

Ganna

After his second place in last week's time trial, today it was Ganna's turn to shine. It quickly became clear that Ganna was having a strong time trial; at the first checkpoint, he already had a significant lead over second place. Surprisingly (or perhaps not), Tadej Pogacar went 4 seconds under Ganna's time at the first checkpoint. However, at the second checkpoint, Pogacar's decline was evident, which is logical when you compare the body builds of the two riders. Remarkably, this was the first win of the season for a relieved Ganna.

Pogacar Continues to Build His Lead

Tadej Pogacar once again gained a significant bonus, with second-place Geraint Thomas now 3:41 behind. Barring any accidents, Pogacar seems on his way to his first overall victory in the Giro. The battle for the remaining podium places is heating up, with Geraint Thomas coming out best in today's time trial. His competitor Daniel Martinez lost 31 seconds to the Welshman today, while Thymen Arensman fought his way back into contention for the top 5.

Ineos on Top

With 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 8th places, Ineos riders demonstrated that they are in top form, placing four riders in the top 10. Magnus Sheffield was expected to join them but fell. It will be interesting to see if they have a plan for tomorrow's queen stage with a daunting 5,500 meters of elevation gain.

Stage 15

Tomorrow promises to be a beastly stage with 5,500 meters of elevation gain. Tadej Pogacar has already announced that he will go all out for the stage win, so there will be no chance for an early breakaway. Likely, there will be casualties in the fight for the podium; a bad day is not an option. In any case, we will learn a lot about the current freshness of the riders tomorrow, but luckily they will have a well-deserved rest day on Monday.
